Listening globally, seeing it locally, or something like that
Heads up to all of you who were interested in catching the M2S2 Mokah Music Summit & Showcase next weekend. In order to prevent overlapping with Good Record's Nat'l Record Story Day shindig, the showcase has been moved from April 19th to April 20th. The lineup includes many local heavy-hitters and soon-to-bes: Bridges & Blinking Lights, Smile Smile, Jayson Bales Band, Miles From Nowhere, The Slack, Salim Nourallah & The Noise, Blue Petal, Rahim Quazi, Something in the Wheel, Flat People, Ramonalisas, Airline, Annie Benjamin and Taylor Davis. More details can be found here as they are made available.
Local Unions
Via el Observer comes the following newsbyte. Robert Gomez and Eric Pulido (Midlake) are teaming up to create their own label, Nova Posta, which in Latin means Dallas-music-gasm. Already on the roster are Matthew and the Arrogant Sea who will be releasing their full length, Family Family and the Magic Christian, this summer. They will be working with the successful public relations and distribution firms of Team Claremont and Redeye.
Faktion have recently joined up with C-Squared Management (of which a simple Google search reveals that to be a very popular company name). The company, ran by Cris and Cody something or other (who cares, it's all about the first names), have been friends of the band for some time now.
If you are a guitarist, then Hyde the Fear could be looking for you. With the recent departure of their other guitarist the band has posted a MySpace blog-style application for potential new bandmates. With current band member pseudonyms like Kenny Lingus and Billy Badass, you just know this group has the charisma to hit the big time. Maybe?
Fun with Compact Discs
Becky Middleton, who was featured in a previous Riff Raff regarding her upcoming album, is now asking for your help in financing it. While she's thankful for any donations that can be made she has some CD and EP incentives for those bigger money givers. More details on her blog.
The Orange, on the other, oranger hand, have already completed their album, A Sonic Collection of Short Stories from La La Land (Jesus Christo, what a title). If you missed the CD release, worry not, the album will be made available in wider circulation in May.
