FCD Head Coach Steve Morrow's post-game comments (4-12-08)

FC Dallas strolled out of last night's game against the New York Red Bulls with their first win of the regular season (following ties against Chivas USA and Houston). The Hoops set their fate early when Arturo Alvarez netted a header off a cross from the right side from Andre Rocha. Early excitement, however, led to 20 minutes of more cautious play.

Despite the early goal, New York did not give up in the offensive. Following a disappointing one-v-one flub by Alvarez in the 22nd minute, Jozy Altidore and Oscar Echeverry worked plays and got shots off in the 27th, 28th, 32nd, 34th, and 36th minutes of play. However, every single shot from the two either ducked wide or sailed just over the net. Credit goes to FCD's goalkeeper Dario Sala, for intercepting a number of dangerous crosses in the Dallas' defensive 12 yards, and helping to keep Echeverry and Altidore scoreless despite numerous attempts.

The second half of play found Dallas more on the offensive, while New York continued to send their chances off frame (14 shots in the game, 2 on goal). In the 66th minute the Hoops were able to solidify their lead when Adrian Serioux sent a ball up field to Kenny Cooper who controlled the pass en route to goal, breaking into the box near the center of the field in a one-v-one situation with NY keeper Jon Conway. A slight redirection past Conway put Dallas two up. A 90th minute opportunity and ultimate miss for substitute forward, Ricardinho ended a capably handled game for Dallas.
