The Dallas Mavericks came out flat early before making it a game in the fourth quarter Saturday, in a disappointing 108-105 loss in Portland. Down by as much as 16 points in the first half, the Mavericks were able to chip away at the Trailblazers' lead until they finally could not manage to pull off the victory in the final seconds.

The loss drops the Mavs to 50-30, and helped the Trailblazers to 40-40. The Mavs are now all but guaranteed the seventh playoff seed in the Western Conference, and will likely face the Lakers, Spurs or Rockets in the first round of the playoffs.

The Mavericks were led by Dirk Nowitzki, who topped all scorers with 28 points on 10-of-17 shooting. Dirk's usual wingman, Josh Howard, did not play due to an injury but was more-or-less replaced by veteran Eddie Jones, who scored 16 points and 6 rebounds. Jones shot 6-for-7 from the floor, including a helpful 3-for-4 for three.

Jason Kidd had a quiet day against an under-.500 team for once, putting up just 8 points, 5 rebounds and 10 assists. Jason Terry had a very poor game, missing practically every shot he took en route to a ten point night. Terry ended up going just 3-for-15 from the floor.
