Among the batch of films releasing on DVD this week are two that we've conveniently pre-evaluated for you, having reviewed them at the time of their theatrical release.
Most notable is the advent of Juno, nominated for Oscars in directing, best movie and best actress categories and taking home the little golden man for Diablo Cody's original screenplay. For home viewers, the film is being made available on standard DVD (in either single disc or two-disc deluxe versions) and Blu-Ray. Alex really liked the movie, saying it had - and I quote - "great writing, acting, directing, music, etc., etc."
Less successful in terms of Alex's quality meter was I Want Someone to Eat Cheese With, the directorial debut of comedian Jeff Garlin. As for the performances: "One can’t really say that any of the actors in the film are good or bad – they’re just kind of along for the ride," says Alex.
And for those as old as me (we can convene in the nearest broom closet with room to spare!), there's an exciting (not kidding) opportunity to own the Woody Woodpecker classic cartoon collection, bringing together a slew of the vintage Walter Lantz animated shorts starring that wacky redheaded anthropomorphic avian who made our young lives (*SIGH*) so much more colorful. And fun.
