White Rock Home Tour and Art Festival 2008
- Where: Victor H. Hexter Elementary School, 9720 Waterview Road, Dallas
- Cost: $4 - $15
- Age limit: All ages
DALLAS The third annual White Rock Home Tour and Art Festival is April 19-20. The home tour features 5 mid-century modern homes and is open from noon to five pm daily. It is the only exclusive modern home tour in the area and in honor of Earth Day one home is even Energy Star-certified.
Visitors will have the chance to tour the homes, listed below, and even meet the architects.
This East White Rock Lake home was built in 1950 by Frank J. Woerner Jr., the designer of Minyards on Peavy Road. The home is built with Roman brick and on the east side features 19 foot floor-to-ceiling windows.
This Energy Star-certified home was built by Jonathan Delcambre and is made of structurally insulated panels. The proper solar orientation of this home removes the need for artificial lighting during daylight. Delcambre will be available April 19, from noon to 2 pm.
Peg Rosenlund designed this home in 1960 – a time when women architects were rare. The home has three levels to accommodate the 10 foot grade change from left to right and features a koi pond, double fireplace, and vintage and antique furnishings. Rosenlund will be available April 20, from noon to 2 pm.
This 1959 Ju-Nel home is lofted on exposed concrete piers and steel l-beams. Past and current homeowners have maintained the original kitchen and bathroom cabinetry, switches, intercoms, hoods, and bathroom tile. The architect’s daughters will be available April 19, from 2 to 4 pm and April 20, from noon to 2 pm.
This Mediterranean Gardens home was built in 1963 by John Travis, Jr. The home features original bathrooms, vintage furniture and no hallways. Travis will be available April 20 from 2 to 4 pm.
The concurrent Art Festival will be open from 10 am to 6 pm daily at Hexter Elementary. There will be about thirty artists, ranging from professionals like Susan Tinkler O’Neal, Reid Barnhart and Kimberly Morris to student artists from Hexter Elementary. All proceeds will benefit Hexter. Pizza from Lover’s Pizza and Pasta will also be available.
Discounted tickets ($12 each) will be sold through April 18 at Green Spot Market and Fuels or White Rock Coffee. Day-of tickets are sold at tour homes or art festival. Children under 11 are free.

Sounds fun - I'd love to see the inside of some of those homes.
Maybe with the proceeds they can buy a shredder?
