Happy Earth Day dear Pegas-user,

Hopefully you've fully recovered from Tax Tuesday. It's been a tough week for free speech in North Texas, with layoffs at the Star-Telegram and the adoption of new laws banning prostitution densprivate VIP rooms at sexually oriented businesses (a.k.a. SOBs) in Dallas. Not that we're complaining -- we can help those affected find something to do in newfound free time. Or, just bring 'em up to speed on other news in our community this week...

Metro

As the nation's largest-ever foster care case will determine the custody of children rescued from a polygamist compound in west Texas, Latina Lista explains the role of CASA in protecting abused children. North Dallas Gazette gives a progress report on DART's Green Line, as well as another "green" initiative in Garland. People who get in to accidents won't have to worry about their phone numbers being made public in accident reports. Best Southwest Citizen predicts the outcome of Duncanville's mayoral race.

Flix

This week we posted more movie stuff than you could shake a clapper board at, including reviews of The Grand, Street Kings, Chapter 27, Smart People, Chaos Theory, Young@Heart, Priceless, Zombie Strippers, and Prom Night. Whew! The author/artist and director of the comic book and animated film versions of Academy Award-nominated Persepolis was in town and Chad reports on her many charms. Film guy John also landed a plum interview with USA Film Festival's Great Director honoree for 2008, Claude Lelouch and covered of the gala world premiere of the Darwinism vs. intelligent design documentary, Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed. A CliffDweller wants to go Hollywood. And consider this non-local tidbit like a DVD bonus: Marfa is launching a film fest.

Dining

Braum's introduced a slew of new flavors. The winners of Pillsbury's biennial bake-off were honored. Starbucks is helping its customers plug their holes. Content partner Cliff Dweller also rates martinis in Oak Cliff -- which is, of course, dry -- on a scale of one to five olives.

Sports

Todd's Cupcheck is a playoff update. McKinney approved funds for the Dr Pepper StarCenter for the team that wants you to wear black. The Mavs locked up a first-round match-up with the Hornets, while Rangers finally broke their five-game losing streak but Dallas South still doesn't think they're big time.

Bidness

Gay List Daily follows Sue Ellen's to its new location. Adam's Mark is no more, but its old building has a new name. USC and Tenet struck a lawsuit-inspired deal. XTO and ExxonMobil are also expanding.

Sound and Scene

Shawn spotlights Debra Carter of Repertory Company Theatre, the director of Born Yesterday. The Column's John Garcia reviews The Makeover at Grapevine's Runway Theatre, while Mark-Brian Sonna saw Dallas Summer Musicals' The Wedding Singer. McKinney is weighing whether to fund Collin County's proposed art center. Pegasus community member reflector reviewed Canadian chanteuse Feist, while 2K7 Photography documented Megadeth. West and Clear previews Fort Worth's unofficial accordion-fest. North Dallas Gazette covers a new theatre company in Frisco. Meanwhile Erin rounds up new concert tickets on sale.

• The DMA and Fort Worth Modern will be open 'til midnight.
• It's the first of the two-night Concernathon 2008 featuring great local bands at Rubber Gloves in Denton

Saturday:

• Tour modern and energy-efficient homes in Lakewood, to benefit Hexter Elementary
• Good Records celebrates its eighth anniversary
• Plenty of galleries will be open for the Dallas Art Dealers Association (DADA) annual spring walk.
• Chan Marshall, a.k.a. Cat Power, at the Palladium

Sunday:

• Last chance to rawk all day at the 30th annual Dallas International Guitar Festival.
• Celebrate Earth Day early in Oak Cliff or Fair Park
• The Pointer Sisters wrap up a pops residency with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra
