Boston Red Sox 8, Texas Rangers 3

The Texas Rangers put forth another lackluster effort Monday afternoon, losing once again to the Red Sox 8-3 in Boston. The Red Sox swept all four games of the series, and dropped the Rangers to 7-13.

These Rangers have no punch

Unlike previous games, where Texas was ahead and blew a lead in the late innings, the Rangers were never fully in this one. Two big innings for Boston --a recurring theme throughout the four-game series-- led to a quick 8-0 lead by the bottom of the fifth inning. The Rangers didn't score until the top of the seventh to avoid the shutout.

Rangers starter Kason Gabbard pitched well but had to leave after just two innings due to an apparent sore back. Gabbard gave up no hits or runs in those two innings, and will be evaluated after the game. He was relieved by the often-shelled Dustin Nippert, who gave up all eight runs in just over two innings.

No other Rangers pitcher gave up a single run, but those two innings were all the Red Sox needed to coast to another easy win. Nippert dropped to 1-2 with a 16.62 ERA.

On the offensive side of things, the Rangers were able to get hits, but once again stranded batters at their AL-leading clip. Josh Hamilton went 2-for-5 with a pair of RBI, while Michael Young went 2-for-4 with two doubles and a run scored. Right fielder David Murphy also went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored.
