Current Energy is hosting an awards ceremony, "green" pep rally, and all-school assembly on Earth Day, April 22, at Onesimo Hernandez Elementary school, to congratulate the students for winning the company's first annual "Educate Dallas Earth Day 2008" poster contest. The company will present a $1,000 check to the school for environmental enhancements or educational materials, and Mayor Tom Leppert, who judged the contest along with Current Energy staffers, will make a speech.

How festive will this be? Large "earth" balloons and colorful signs will be on the auditorium stage, and Earth Day music will be playing in background.

The winning 6X4-foot poster, created by Onesimo Hernandez Elementary's second-grade art classes, will be on display, a well as the Alliance to Save Energy's "Energy Hog" mascot (really, a guy in a pig costume). The poster contest was created to educate Dallas youth on the importance of energy efficiency and environmental initiatives. Six DISD elementary schools near Current Energy's store on Knox Street were invited to compete.
