North Texas Tollway Authority names top ten violators

$85K, is that all? Why don't they just pay up?

The North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA) has released their list of top ten violators (as of April 4, 2008), and the list is headed up by two vehicles registered to the tollbooth-busting tag team of Sonia S. Gonzales and David Mikeska (who didn't make the last published list, but must have been in the process of working their way up through the pack), whose combined unpaid tollway fees amount to - can we get a drum roll, please? - $85,592.65!

(VERY impressive!)

The next nine scofflaws, in descending order of magnitude (starting with an almost-as-impressive amount owed of $85,552.20 and ending up in tenth place at a measly "try-harder-next-time" $46,555.65) are:

* Chasity C. Martin (yes, I checked the spelling)

* Kelly D. Lewis

* Janie Bean

* Jessica Woodworth

* Blair E. Williams

* Cedric Record (who now actually HAS a record)

* Dana S. Neely

* Daniel W. Burzynski

* Raul Martinez

These astronomical amounts owed include both actual unpaid tolls and "incurred administrative fees," and it says here that "the NTTA will continue to work with our violators to come to a mutual agreement in which we recover all the outstanding tolls and a negotiated amount of administrative fees." Which seems mighty agreeable of them, all things considered.

If any of those on the above list are anxious to get back in the good graces of the NTTA before the Dept. of Public Safety issues citations designed to - um - "resolve the situation," they are encouraged to call a tollway customer service representative at 972-818-6882.

And tell 'em you're one of their top ten product testers.

Toll enforcement appears remarkably toothless. The top two owe $85K, and NTTA says the might someday see about issuing them a citation? You'd think they'd have done that a long time ago. If the top 10 have roughly $630K in unpaid tolls & fees between them, why isn't NTTA citing and serving them?

Well, who's great idea was it to come up with the 'toll tag' in the first place? Someone wanting to make it easier and faster to make more money I suppose. You make it easier and faster for everyone to cheat, and they apparently will.
