2008 Dallas Wine and Food Festival to celebrate Dallas Morning News wine competition April 23-27

The 2008 Dallas Wine and Food Festival kicks off Wednesday night at the Angelika Dallas and continues the celebration for five days of entertaining wine and food events April 23-27.

Wednesday's event is a $65 dinner at the Angelika Film Center & Cafe and a movie.

Thursday, April 24 is the "Rising Stars Chefs' Dinner at the Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek, $100, hosted by former weatherman and well known foodie Troy Dungan.

Friday, April 25, the action moves to Eddie Deen's Ranch for "Texas Salute!" Tip your hat to the increasing diversity and quality presented by the beermakers, winemakers, rummakers, and local producers at this all-Texan affair. Hosted by Cathy Barber, Wine and Food Editor of The Dallas Morning News with live Texas music from the Randy Brown Duo, $30.

Saturday, April 26, includes:

- "Grand Tastings" at Milestone Culinary Arts Center & Viking Cooking School with demos, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., $35.

- Everyday Wines for Everyday People, 10 to 11:15 a.m., $25. Sample and discuss a collection of award-winning wines from The Dallas Morning News Wine Competition priced under $15.

- Pranzo Italiano 12-1:30 pm, at Adelmo's Ristorante, a three-course winemaker's lunch paired with premium Tuscan wines presented by Giovanni Nencini from Italy's Da Vinci Winery, $35.

- Riesling on the Rise - 2:30-3:45pm at Milestone Culinary Arts Center & Viking Cooking School. Explore samples of Riesling, one of the fastest growing wine varieties in the U.S. marketplace. Panel features Drew Hendricks, Wine Director, Charlie Palmer at The Joule, and Barbara Werley, Wine Director, Pappas Bros. Steakhouse, $35.

- Aló and Goodbye: Antojitos y Mojitos - 4-6 p.m. at Aló Restaurant. End the day, or start the evening, at Aló, one of the hottest new restaurants in Dallas. Enjoy contemporary Mexican and Peruvian appetizers prepared by Chef Julia Lopez and a Bacardi Mojito in the lounge. $35.

On Sunday April 27, from 5:30-8 p.m., it's Taste of the World: Stroll and sample award-winning wines from The Dallas Morning News Wine Competition, the largest of its kind in the Southwest. Bid on a variety of culinary and specialty items benefiting Farmers Market Friends. Live music to keep you moving as you taste prize-winning wines, savor specialty cuisine and meet chefs from Dallas' favorite restaurants. $65.
