Circle Theatre announces finalists & semi-finalists for 2008 High School Playwriting Project

Circle Theatre and Fort Worth Theatre are proud to announce the following outstanding finalists and semi-finalists for their fourth annual co-sponsored High School Playwrights Project.

A panel of four judges read all the anonymously submitted short plays and selected twenty plays they felt would best qualify for a public staged reading by experienced actors. This was all done individually, without conferring with others on the panel. This year’s panel of judges included Diane Simons (executive producer, Hip Pocket Theatre); Jerry Russell (producing director, Stage West); Steve McGaw (artistic director, SceneShop) and Debbie Dacus (local actress / music therapist). Connie Whitt-Lambert, chair of Texas Wesleyan University’s theatre department, read the selected twenty plays and picked the four finalist and three semi-finalist scripts for the public stage reading at Circle.

Harry Parker, chair of Texas Christian University’s theatre department will direct. Thie readings are free of charge and to reserve general admission seating, call 817-877-3040. Here are the plays to be presented:

Finalists

• An Actor Prepares, or the Tragic Tale of a Tyronic Thespian by Zeke Blackwell of Fort Worth Country Day School (Teacher: Melodee Halbach)
• Coffee Talk by Tim Jablonski of Nolan Catholic High School (Teacher: Abby Rosenthal)
• The Odyssey Parody Book: 2,019 by Tyler Moore of Fort Worth Country Day School (Teacher: Melodee Halbach)
• An Ode to the Joy of Desire co-written by Christopher Yoli and Robert Lewis Miesen of Carroll Senior High School (Teachers: Stacie Martinsen and Roald Martinsen)

Semi-Finalists

• The Family Man co-written by Patrick Chester and David Torrence of Haltom High School (Teacher: Renee Norris)
• Perchance to Dream by Kendelle Tekstar of Fort Worth Country Day School (Teacher: Melodee Halbach)
• Chris and Jenny by Caroline Reyes of Fort Worth Country Day School (Teacher: David Berthold)
