Dallas City Hall corruption defendant no-shows to trial, blames diabetes

Email Print Tell us your story Comments (9)

Darren Reagan, one of the defendants in the City Hall corruption case who is charged of defrauding the Dallas Housing Authority, did not show up at his trial on Monday, blaming his diabetes condition. So Judge Barbara Lynn is placing new restrictions on his activities: He can't leave the area without permission, he has to update the court if he moves, keep his phone operational and keep a probation officer apprised of his blood sugar levels. When he no-showed his trial, they tried calling his phone but he wouldn't answer, so the judge had to send marshals to find him and drag him into court. He's accused of stealing federal rent assistant payments and helping extort money from a developer on behalf of former Mayor Pro Tem Don Hill.

Is Sugar Diabetes a get out of jail free Card? I don't know who the judge is but i like them, "keep a probation officer apprised of his blood sugar level", GREAT.

And the probation officer is qualified to know what any of the blood sugar information means? How was he assigned a probation officer without benefit of a conviction?

I've been an insulin-dependent diabetic for twenty years, and a double below the knee amputee. Although high or low blood sugar levels can incapacitate you for a short while, and at dangerous levels send you to the emergency room, it's never kept me out of any legal troubles- damn it!

Rick, I didn't know you were a double amputee. I am now in even more awe of your hobo-beating prowess.

Doesn't Rick walk with a cane b/c of it? Double points for running a hobo down and beating him with the cane, imo.

Well I'm actually only able to run 'em down if their walking kinda slow, but I don't use a cane anymore, so I'm reduced to trying to slap some sense into them.
I could try to do the same for Pavel and Scott if they'd let me.

I have faith in ya, Rick. Not to mention, hobos are generally malnourished.

Slap at will if you can catch me. Note that I love free hefeweizen, and enough of it damn near immobilizes me.
