Howdy!

We certainly got our share of April showers this week. Between now and Mayday, there are plenty of ways to stay busy ... but first, this news.

Ways we're currently bribing you to spend more time with us

Entrepreneurs and business owners -- this is your last chance to RSVP to nosh and quaff at Cork with Mike O. during Monday night's free seminar on how to market your business online. You also have less than three weeks to win tickets for Radiohead's sold-out Dallas concert in May. This week we awarded Bob Schneider tickets. Opt in to The Daily You for eligibility in cool UnContests, and check back daily for new promotions added throughout the week.

Metro

International trade concerns prompted a visit with Mexico's President and a week-long trade mission to China led by Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert. But when it came time to acquire land for a convention center hotel, the Dallas council punted. And a defendant in Dallas' housing authority corruption trial was a no-show. Grits for Breakfast promotes a proposal to save taxpayer money and reduce jail overcrowding. Minnie reports on the goals of McKinney's mayor. Duncanville Today recognizes recognition for successful environmental initiatives. North Texas Daily details Denton's proposed cell phone ban. And you might never guess the best city manager in Texas is here in our backyard.

Bring out the glamour in Mom for Mother's Day

Screen

John's review of a little movie called Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed sparked debate. Alex remembered to review Judd Apatow's latest, Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Film guy opened up about Where in the World Is Osama Bin Laden? now that it's opened in North Texas. He also got a look at a newly restored print of The Whole Shootin' Match at the USA Film Festival, and heard from two of the original actors. And Todd previewed Baby Mama, which he thinks plays the drama card too often when the comedy card was needed.

Stage

Shawn spotlights Julie Johnson, leading lady in Hello, Dolly! at Lyric Stage. The Column's John Garcia offers a "jukebox musical" primer in his review of All Shook Up at Garland Civic Theatre. Mark-Brian Sonna reviews Repertory Company Theatre's Born Yesterday, and in turn, Chad reviews Mark-Brian Sonna's Dante: Inferno.

A river, a park and 38 Bands...Mayfest!

Dining

T.G. and Laura S. got a behind-the-scenes look at how fresh 7-Eleven food is made. T.G. also reports on a baking product from the makers of York Peppermint Patties -- now widely available. Can you guess which administration the Presidential pastry chef in town to celebrate Mercury Grill's anniversary served? Also, T.G. brings news of M&M's new candy linked to Indiana Jones IV. Gay List Daily stops by the new Cyclone Anaya’s Mexican Kitchen.

Listen up

Mike O. waxes poetic about the be-yodel-ful solo debut by Murry Hammond of Old 97's. Minnie previews Denton's annual Arts and Jazz Festival featuring Delbert McClinton, the Neville Brothers, and Brave Combo. Latina Lista previews the literary and musical Hecho en Tejas featuring Davíd Garza. Dallas native Michelle Shocked chatted about her gospel influences, forthcoming release, and local tour stop at House of Blues. One of our community members also reviewed the new CD Texas from PlayRadioPlay! Our music database also continues to grow by leaps and bounds.

Sports

Todd's got a Second Round Playoff Cupcheck. Is there a better league for the Rangers to play in? The Mavs are doing almost as well as the Rangers. While the Cowboys just made next season that much more interesting.

Bidness

North Dallas Gazette reports on a ground-breaking conference for women in business in Frisco. Dallas Progress notes a surprising demolition project in Turtle Creek. ACS' name will soon be cursed on the streets of Chicago. Alliance Data's long drama is finally kaput. Vought settled its discrimination suit. Fluor and Luminant struck a deal. American Airlines is back in the news, unfortunately. Meanwhile naming rights for the Byron Nelson are locked up for years to come.
