Burleson helps residents properly dispose of household hazardous waste on May 3

— Don’t create a hazard. Dispose of your household hazardous waste properly by participating in the Saturday, May 3, Household Hazardous Waste Collection event.

The HHW collection will take place between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. at the City’s Municipal Service Center at 1675 John Jones Dr. (FM 731 South). The household chemicals will be collected by the City of Fort Worth’s Crud Cruiser.

Household chemical wastes are disposed of improperly when people pour them down the drain, on the ground, in the storm sewers, or put them in the trash. Old paint, pesticides, used oil and other automotive fluids, household cleaners, solvents, and batteries, are household chemicals that could be hazardous to the environment if disposed of improperly.

Only material from Burleson residents may be accepted at the May 3 event, so participants are asked to bring their city water or solid waste bill as proof of residency.

Residents who can’t wait until May 3 can take their household hazardous wastes to the Environmental Collection Center (ECC) at 6400 Bridge St. in Fort Worth. The ECC is open Thursdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. There is no fee for dropping off your household hazardous waste, however, residents must take a City of Burleson water or solid waste bill as proof of residency.

For more information, call environmental services at 817-447-5410, ext. 269.
