Hurst resident sentenced to four years for nursing home tax scheme
Larry Gordon May's attorney tried his best to paint May as a patsy in a larger scheme to steal $34 million in taxes from the U.S. government. In the end, however, the prosecutor and judge agreed that May could not have been as naive as he wanted others to think.
May and others devised a string of fake companies to take money from nursing homes in Texas, Iowa, Kansas, Virginia and Oklahoma, and holding taxes from the 4,500 employees. He was listed as the president of the companies.
May was sentenced to 48 months in prison after an initial sentence of 70- to 87-months was reduced.
