Mavericks coach Avery Johnson fired

No more technicals for Avery Johnson -- at least not on the Mavericks' sideline.

No more technicals for Avery Johnson -- at least not on the Mavericks' sideline.

Well, that didn't take long: Less than 24 hours after leading the Dallas Mavericks to their second-straight ousting in the first round of the NBA playoffs, coach Avery Johnson has been ousted himself. Johnson had had a recent heated run-in with owner Mark Cuban and had his players practice without him on Monday, so the firing doesn't come as much of a surprise.

Now that that's done, how 'bout we get behind a successful Dallas team, shall we?

Did he not cancel practice b/c everyone went out and partied the night before? Making a statement, etc - wasn't just slacking.

Dump everyone but Bass. Not a Mavs fan btw. But he's the only hard working player they have.

Please understand that Avery Johnson did not get fired because he was a bad coach, Avery was dismissed because the team, which is built for now, could not get over the top during his reign. It's time for change and to overhaul the team and it needed to start with the coach. Avery will bounce back.

I'm going to miss the Little General. He brought some much needed class to this organization. When he was announced as the new head coach, everyone said that this was the right guy for the job. He was going to start stressing defense. He knew what it took to win a championship. Heck, he was even a candidate for Coach of the Year. What a mess.

I have a feeling that Avery will eventually be the heir apperant to Pop down in SA, as the guy is beloved by all spurs fans (like myself). The Little General has a great amount of talent and direction, the problem is that he had a team who lacked any real drive or motivation. For that, you can blame Mark Cuban and the cabal know as the Mavs Back Office for giving them everything on a silver platter. I say pull a Florida on them and lock them out of their practice facilities, team doctors and comfortable seats until they pull their head out of their collective backsides and start playing decent post-season ball.
