Widow of Irving policeman killed by Texas 7 asks officers to attend execution
On August 14, the first of the infamous Texas 7 will be executed by lethal injection. This group of prison escapees killed Irving police officer Aubrey Hawkins on December 24, 2000 after he walked in on their burglary.
Hawkins' widow sent an email to police groups around the state, asking them to come to the Huntsville prison in uniform as a show of support. According to response, there will be dozens of officers making the trek, several of them from the Irving Police department.
