Contemporary Theatre of Dallas presents their first venture into Tennessee Williams with the classic drama, A Streetcar Named Desire. The show officially opens August 8 and runs through August 31, with a pay-what-you-can preview on Thursday, August 7.
A Streetcar Named Desire opened on Broadway in 1947, won a Tony Award (for lead actress Jessica Tandy) and the Pulitzer Prize, and was made into an unforgettable film in 1951. It tells the story of Blanche DuBois, a delusion-prone alcoholic who flees her scandalous past and lost ancestral plantation to seek refuge with her sister Stella in working-class New Orleans. But Blanche’s feminine wiles are no match for the cunning and brutality of her brother-in-law Stanley Kowalski, who won’t let Blanche’s secrets stay buried back in Mississippi.
Directed by René Moreno, the talented cast includes Lydia Mackay (Blanche), Clay Yocum (Stanley), Jessica Wiggers (Stella), Russell DeGrazier (Mitch), Sue Loncar (Eunice), John Venable (Steve), Thiago Martins (Pablo), Kyle May (Doctor), Nancy Sherrard (Nurse), Tippi Hunter (Negro Woman), Barbara Bierbrier (Mexican Woman), and Andrews Cope (Young Collector). The team of designers also includes Randel Wright (set), Russell K. Dyer (lighting), Aaron Patrick Turner (costumes), Tish Mussey (props), and Marco Salinas (sound).
