Grand Prairie AirHogs 5, Pensacola Pelicans 4
Brandon Carter scored the winning run on a wild last play in the bottom of the 11th inning, giving Grand Prairie the 5-4 victory on Monday.
The AirHogs notched the win in the bottom of the eleventh when Brandon Carter scored on a sacrifice bunt by David Espinosa. Carter reached on a walk and continued running to third with no one was covering the bag. Pensacola's first baseman Brandon Sing threw to third for the shortstop Jack Jaffrion but the ball skipped into foul territory allowing Carter to race home for the winning run.
Pensacola scored early in the top of the first with their leadoff hitter Francisco Leandro blasting a homer to right field. The AirHogs trailed 1-0 after the inning.
In the bottom of the second, Derek Nicholson grabbed a triple for the second night in a row. He was then brought home on a RBI single to right by Mike Conroy setting the score at 1-1.
The Pelicans earned another run in the top of the fourth to take the lead. Brandon Sing smashed a solo homer to left putting Pensacola ahead 2-1.
Grand Prairie came back in the bottom of the fifth with Conroy coming home on an RBI ground out to second to tie the score at 2-2.
In the top of the seventh, Pensacola took back the lead for a score of 4-2. Leandro earned an RBI double to bring in Dylan Parzyk. Leandro then came home on a wild pitch by reliever Geivy Garcia.
The AirHogs tied the game up in the bottom of the eighth at 4-4. With the bases loaded, Pensacola walked Nicholson to bring in Drew Holder. Billy Munoz grabbed the second run of the inning on a RBI fielder's choice.
Justin Garcia started for Grand Prairie pitching 6.0 innings with four hits, two runs, three walks, and five strikeouts. Vinnie DeChristofaro (5-2 earned the win pitching 2.0 innings with one hit, no runs, no walks, and one strikeout.
Daniel Smith started for Pensacola pitching 7.1 innings with six hits, two runs, two walks, and four strikeouts. Paul Phillips (1-1) earned the loss pitching 0.2 innings with two hits, one run, one walk, and one strikeout.
Grand Prairie will end its series at home against the Pensacola Pelicans on Tuesday with a 7:05 p.m. first pitch.
