North Texas Tollway Authority increases speed limit at toll-booths for vehicles with toll-tags

9

The North Texas Tollway Authority's (NTTA) Board of Directors approved the increase of speed limits through the express lanes at the main plazas that span the roadway where tolls are collected to match the speed limits approaching the plazas. The new speed limits will become effective when the proper signs are posted, over the next several months.

Those express lanes -- TollTag-only lanes which continue through the plaza when there is an option to pay cash -- will have a consistent speed limit that matches the existing speed limits on either side of the plaza.

"We are able to increase the speed limits because the NTTA is preparing to make main lane plaza improvements, such as reconfiguring and re-striping the lanes, associated with its transition to all-electronic toll collection which will improve traffic flow and increase safety on both the President George Bush Turnpike and the Dallas North Tollway," said NTTA's Deputy Executive Director Rick Herrington.

The safety improvements and a consistent speed limit through the express lanes have been piloted at the Coit Road Main Lane Plaza to ensure the increase will not have an adverse impact on safety.

I'm on board with Collin.

Pretty sure it's news to a lot of people that there ever was a lower speed limit through 'em.

I found out the hard way one night when I passed a DPS trooper going thru a fast lane tolltag lane on George Bush Tollway near Preston Rd. He pulled me over and asked if I knew the speed limit was 45 mph or some-such nonsense. I said, you gotta be kidding me...I would be putting my family's life in danger if I were to slow to 45 mph when the majority of cars are going at least 70 mph or more. He informed me that 45 mph was the posted speed thru the toll tag station even in the fast lanes. He let me off with a warning (one of very few I've ever recieved in my entire life). Sure enough, the next time thru I looked and there really was a 45 mph sign approaching the toll booths. Needless to say I still didn't slow down to 45 mph and have not since.

Can't wait for cops to read this thread and make it a speed trap in the interim.

I've noticed the posted limit is 45 at the booths, but never seen form of law enforcement there to, uh, enforce it. Come to think of it, I've hardly ever seen any police officers on the toll roads. Well, on the DNT anyway. Saw several traps on the Bushway back when I used it to commute to work.

I've seen troopers sitting south of the Legacy exit on DNT - big hill there, and they sit on the other side of it.

I see officers parked at Preston / Coit, waiting for people. Never been caught yet!
