DART won’t be raising rates — for now

The cost of boarding a DART train will stay the same -- free, uh, I mean, $3.
The cost of boarding a DART train will stay the same -- free, uh, I mean, $3.

Thanks to federal incentives for using natural gas on their buses and other cost-saving measures, DART does not anticipate raising its rates in the near future. Cities around Texas have already approved or are considering rate hikes due to rising energy costs, but DART officials say that they will most likely stick to their usual plan of raising rates every five years, which would mean the next increase would come in 2012.

So I guess there's one good thing about living in the Dallas area, huh?

That's a good thing but I was not aware it cost $3 bucks to use DART that has such poor service routes compared to other cities.

Does it go to DFW airport yet or is DFW still lobbying against this as parking as their greatest source of revenue?

Does it go Fort Worth? Not sure on that. Why would Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area be connected anyway, right?

I have lost confidence in being able to see Dallas live up to it's dram of being anywhere near a top 10 US city.

The TRE goes to DFW Airport and Ft. Worth. If you purchase a 2-zone pass, you get access to both DART and TRE. $2.50 one-ride, $5 day pass.

You have to actually take a bus to the airport but the TRE will drop you off at a bus stop.

Thanks, I do now see the TRE service now and remember that I actually rode that once from DFW about 10 years ago.

To be honest, it was a terrible ride my modern standards. That train is just a notch above the train on the TV show Bonanza. It took 45min to get from DFW to the Medical Center on Inwood Rd (a 20 min drive by car). That did NOT include the bus trip from the terminal to the train station.

Folks, we need to demand better. This is pathetic.

David Gouldin, says:

I agree that we have a long way to go, but have you seen the current TRE trains? They're double deckers with tables, and some even have wifi. And if you look at their schedule, you'll see the DFW Airport stop to Medical Market Center is a 22-23 minute ride. So it's really not as bad as all that.

The TRE is a lot cozier than DART.

Thanks David, I will definitely check out TRE again. Your input is helpful. I admit my opinions are likely dated but I have no apologies for being critical toward city services that are needed. If Dallas wants to bring back the Boeing's of the world, wants to host an Olympics or wants to compete with other cities for business relocation here it won't happen by being passive.

Dallas needs to continue to improve its public transit network and is (DART Green Line) but it also seems to be doing just fine with corporate relocations: (AT&T, Comerica, American International Group and TM Advertising...etc.)

Donna Chen, says:

snowboard, I think you're being very critical of the Dallas public transit system. What cities are you comparing us to? East Coast cities that have always had a transit plan? Cities in Europe? Compare us to comparable cities (suburban-sprawled, sun-belt cities), and I think you'll find that our public transit system isn't all that shabby.

Rather, I should say by not sucking as bad as Arlington, it is acceptable. Yea.

Except for all the money.

Donna: And I'm sure that retarded children make just wonderful art when you consider their handicaps, but that doesn't mean I want a hand-turkey hanging on my wall. If something sucks, it sucks - sure, they're to be commended if they are doing the best they can, but if we see room for improvement, we should point this out.

I'm not morally allowed to laugh out loud at that so I just had drink through my nose from holding it in.

lol, I was going to try to put up a well thought out, intensely observational comment, but there's really not much to say after having invoked the retarded children hand turkey reasoning.

Donna, pay no mind to Pavel's antics. He simply happens to have intimate knowledge of the retarded - nothing you can do or say to change it.
