This idea came about when Bacon from Lee Harvey’s & Lisa from Barbara’s Pavillion were hanging out together recently. “It is a little known fact that Bacon & I are pals and that Bacon is fond of belting out karaoke at the Pav and I am fond of drinking at Lee Harvey’s,” said Lisa Keith, bartender at Barbara’s Pavillion. “So recently we finished singing a duet (Atomic Dog), jumped offstage and began lamenting on the perils of animal rescue and came up with the benefit idea.” They then talked to Christopher “Uncle Chris” Watts of The Petropolitan and Phillip Jester of Lee Harvey's and the cross-event dream became reality.
Both events will be sponsored by The Petropolitan. “98% of cats and 88% of dogs relinquished to the city are euthanized each year”, said Chris Watts, owner of The Petropolitan. “We need to do everything we can to ensure that these animals are the first choice animals when someone is looking for a companion. Rescue animals seem to understand they have been just that, rescued. From there the relationships flourish. Every rescue I’ve had has been the perfect companion.”
“In an additional effort to give back to my community,” Bacon said, “I have decided to combine my deep appreciation for fine cuisine and helping other animals by creating a cookbook. The proceeds of sales will benefit the SPCA of Dallas.” If you would like to help Bacon with his project, simply submit your favorite recipes to leeharveys@yahoo.com.
