Hawaiian Falls in The Colony cools down guests for “dive-in” movie
... using real ice!
Hawaiian Falls Water Park in The Colony celebrated their 5th anniversary with 500 pounds of ice and a special showing of "Nim's Island."
"Oh, please, park operators - bestow upon us some of those wheelbarrows full of ice you have rolled to the edge of the wave pool," these swimmers seem to be chanting in unison.
At 5 p.m. on Aug. 5th, park personnel dumped wheelbarrows full of ice into the wave pool.
"After more than two dozen days of triple digit temperatures, we wanted to cool things off for our guests," said Clint Hill, general manager. "Judging from their squeals and screams, I'd say they enjoyed it."
A steady stream of kids and their parents surrounded Jay Jenson of Radio Disney as he gave away handfuls of promotional items and entertained guests with hula hoop contests.
At dusk, the park showed Nim's Island as part of its "Dive-In Movies," as guests relaxed in the wave pool and watched the film on a large outdoor screen.
Five years ago, Hawaiian Falls opened the water park in a public-private partnership with the city of The Colony. The city owns the land and leases it to Hawaiian Falls to operate the water park. Last year, the park underwent a $600,000 expansion, which included a new 35-foot, Honolulu Lulu four-slide complex and a new water walkway with spray features.
Hawaiian Falls operates three water parks in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, including one in Garland and a new park in Mansfield.
