It's not bad enough that we have theatre companies all running the same shows...now we have to have two theatres named "Uptown" in the DFW area.

Not sure where the other uptown theater is located (in uptown I assume?) - but I think this is great. I spent many childhood saturday mornings at the uptown theater in GP, watching cartoons, and very handily winning a eat-crackers-then-whistle contest held on the stage between cartoons. Also at the Uptown in GP, first saw the movies "Willard", "The Blob", "Tales From the Crypt", and many others - I believe it cost 50cents at night and 25cents for matinee. You can read more about it's history here - http://www.uptowntheatergp.com/upload...

The irony is that it's not opening as a theater at all ;o)
Looks like they are focusing on being a live venue for bands and the like - one magic act that sounds interesting too. That should be nice for the locals. I hope like heck they support it. The place is a bit of a desert right now. I doubt GP will be mounting Music Man this year. More's the pity - it coulda been a straight flush!
Uptown Players is the one Carol is confusing it with and they... quite frankly... are just now branching out to perform in the uptown area.
That's ok, the Plano Symphony doesn't perform in Plano either - What's in a name anyway? ;o)

I love Grand Prarie home of the desert people farmers who lived around 1870, to create a small town.... the original name of the praries is in my left lobe which is not working today, while I do recall Harry Truman came on down there in 1950, and so the town was really a car culture road and tourist trap when Arlington was nonthing except some schools, and so it is still a great place today, oh well give you the real name later on, until then .................Alex Troup,H.2.O
