Swift Tracks: Little Big Horn and One Minute Halo

Little Big Horn sounds more like a city in Oklahoma than a rock band, but rock they do. The group is made up of only three guys. Frontman Neff looks like a mix between a hardcore rocker and a Bob Marley fan, while Stu and Ace (the bassist and guitarist) look like typical guys with impressive beards.

Their sound is nothing like you would expect from their appearance. In “Prague,” Neff’s vocals get drowned out a bit by the heavy guitar, but you definitely get the impression that he’s rocking out at all times. They slow it down constantly showing that you can have a strong rock song that isn’t about to break your speakers.

At the beginning of the song the bass chords resemble a ska band by creating a funky, fluctuating melody. But as soon as the guitar jumps in, all is as it should be. I wonder if the title is referencing the capital city of the Czech Republic. Judging by their style, I’m going to venture out and say that that is a wrong assumption.

There doesn’t seem to be any album or EP out from LBH, only three tracks on their MySpace. They will be playing around DFW in the upcoming weeks. Their next show is at Andy’s Bar in Denton on August 15.

Another great local band with dreads is One Minute Halo. They’re also a rock band, but a little more radio-friendly. They have a single out entitled “Under the Blue Skies.” Not even five seconds in vocalist Jeromy Moorehead’s voice captivates you with its powerful presence and phenomenal sound.

The track describes the life of a soldier and his family in war and how trying it is. The first line states, “Letting go is never easy. Memories, they come back. On our knees we pray and pray some more. The rain pours, rise up.” Their lyrics set them apart from other bands, exhibiting their knack for conveying specific messages.

The chorus comes in with a harmony of voices, giving the song more power and energy. All of the instruments come together like a well-tuned machine helping the song flow.

OMH is a Christian band from Dallas who has been playing together since 2001. They have toured with several big names such as Taproot, Sevendust, and Filter. These guys have been making a name for themselves with a number of out of state shows under their belts.

They will be in Fort Worth on August 21 at the Ridglea Theatre.
