2008 Freedom Run set for September 11
The Eighth Annual Freedom Run, organized by the Dallas Association of Young Lawyers and benefiting the Assist the Officer Foundation, unveils a new look this year on the seventh anniversary of 9/11. The Freedom Run 5K run and the Bill Carollo one mile walk will take place on the evening of Thursday, September 11, 2008 at 6:30 p.m. at Dallas City Hall Plaza.
The Freedom Run is pleased to announce the support of SportsRadio 1310 The Ticket, the 2007 Marconi Award winner for the “Best Sports Station in America.” From 3-7pm on September 11th, The Hardline will broadcast live from Dallas City Hall Plaza.
The opening ceremonies will include a moment of silence for the victims of the 9/11 tragedies. There will also be a tribute to local police officers and first responders that have given the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty this past year.
The Freedom Run Festival will feature activities for the entire family, including a live performance by Petty Theft. Representatives from the Dallas Stars will be on hand with games and ticket giveaways. The Kid’s Area will feature the Dallas Police Department’s S.W.A.T. vehicles, police horses, and fire trucks. Dallas Police Officers will also be on hand providing identification kits for children.
The Freedom Run is an opportunity for us to unite and honor the heroes and victims of the tragic events on September 11, 2001. The Freedom Run is also an opportunity for us to celebrate the freedom that we enjoy every day and pay tribute to those who have sacrificed, and continue to sacrifice, on a daily basis, both locally and abroad, in order that we may enjoy our freedom.
Proceeds from the Freedom Run benefit the Assist the Officer Foundation. The Assist the Officer Foundation provides financial assistance to officers who are facing the loss of income due to a serious injury, life-threatening illness or other catastrophic event. Immediate assistance is also available to families of first responders in the unfortunate event of the death of an active officer. Since 2002, the Freedom Run and the Dallas Association of Young Lawyers have raised over $130,000 for the Assist the Officer Foundation.
It has been seven years since the tragic events of 9/11, yet we are continuously reminded of the sacrifices that our police officers and first responders make on a daily basis. Come celebrate freedom at this one of a kind event benefiting a one of a kind organization and help LET FREEDOM RUN.
