Lancaster ISD board trustee Cheryl Wright resigns
Cheryl Wright’s time as a Lancaster Independent School Board Trustee was a short one, as she tendered her resignation last week. Wright cited family and business concerns as reasons for stepping down three months after taking her seat.
Wright replaced Place 7 incumbent Russ Johnson who opted not to seek re-election. Johnson and Place 4 incumbent Sue Mendoza didn’t run, yielding new trustees. Place 5 incumbent Shelia Stanmore lost her seat to Joe Kana and the three new trustees quickly shifted the balance of power.
The new board elected Carolyn Morris, a vocal critic of Superintendent Larry Lewis, as its new president. That has led to difficult times for Lewis, with the board voting to hire Dallas attorney Harry Jones to investigate the superintendent.
The board could opt to hold a special election or the trustees could vote to appoint a replacement. Stanmore was an appointee to replace Rick Glover, who resigned for health reasons.
