Collin County Observer reports on meaningless equal opportunity policy, while McKinneyNews.net cites Collin's national leadership in fiscal transparency. Dallas County commissioners approved a November bond vote to help build a new Parkland Hospital. Arlington wants to know if there's something in the water (and if yes, what to do about it).

Acting out: Jay Leno is performing at a benefit for Casa Mañana. Theatre 3's new show's a Big Bang. Children's theaters in Arlington and Fort Worth announced their new seasons. Neil Young's Greendale is returning from NYC to Deep Ellum. North Dallas Gazette rounds up other summer offerings.

Flix: On the film front, Alex reviewed the Wed. opener Tropic Thunder, which he thoroughly enjoyed. John attended the Asian Film Festival of Dallas' pre-opening night reception featuring star/writer Jimmy Tsai, held at the Crow Collection of Asian Art. On Friday, check the Movies tab for reviews of Vicky Cristina Barcelona, Henry Poole Is Here and the new Lucasfilms animated feature, Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

Music: This week in Swift Tracks Brenna listens to Little Big Horn and One Minute Halo. Hit Save Not Delete previews The Magnetic Fields show at the Majestic and Amos Lee at the Granada. Randy Travis, Danzig, The Roots, and Willie Nelson have local tour stops ahead. Local hip-hop artists hope to use their musical prowess to combat HIV. Todd reviewed Ozzfest, and 2K7 had a photo gallery.

Best Bites: Chuy's is expanding into Plano. In new product news, a classic candy has a new premium line. The Food Network has its lens trained on Paciugo Gelato. The annual Restaurant Week is also underway.

Sports: A Parker gymnast and Duncanville boxer are representing the U.S. at the Olympics — which Todd hates in this week's Cupcheck. Fort Worth Cats kept Sioux City at Bay, and the Frisco RoughRiders lost to Arkansas, but beat Tulsa. The Rangers tied an American League record... and lost. Cowboys sucked in preseason play but still rivaled the Olympics in ratings. Canadian Dallasite Brett Hull will be inducted into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame. Dallas will again host a Freedom Run to commemorate 9/11.

Schools: Best Southwest Citizen says Lancaster ISD is worse than ever, and one of its board members resigned. Dallas Progress reports on a new college football game coming to the Cotton Bowl. Dallas South takes issue with WFAA's high school sports coverage. Richardson Echo explains the TEA's ratings.

The Biz: JC Penney is going green. Fluor made $5 billion in three days. Barking Dogs relishes the closure of Suede on Lower Greenville. Exxon announced plans to drill for even more oil. And amidst controversy, American Airlines takes one for the troops.
