Carrollton hosts soccer complex grand opening Aug. 23
CARROLLTON A grand opening ceremony will be held Saturday, Aug. 23 at 11 a.m. for Carrollton’s McInnish Park Soccer Complex, 2135 Sandy Lake Road. The mayor and city council will officiate the event with a ribbon cutting and a ceremonial ‘first kick’ into the new goal.
The McInnish Soccer Complex is a new 23-acre facility comprised of five youth soccer fields with supporting concessions, parking, shade structures and picnic pavilion. “Carrollton is excited to open these five new soccer fields for play," said parks and recreation director Scott Whitaker. "We feel the new fields are a great addition for our residents and something our soccer community will truly enjoy.”
The approximate $2.5 million project utilized 2004 bond funds to transform a former hay field and city of Carrollton parks maintenance work yard into a professional quality athletic facility. One adult field has been further enhanced with an electronic score board, audio system, elevated score-keeping platform and covered team benches to create an area suitable for championship level competitions.
“The recreational amenities were created to promote team sports and physical fitness, and meet the long-term needs of Carrollton’s soccer community,” commented Andrew Combs, CIP Coordinator. "The soccer fields are being constructed in conjunction with several other current and future enhancements at the McInnish Athletic Complex, including a turf replacement on existing soccer fields, new baseball fields, new playgrounds and a new restroom."
