The City of Fort Worth to buy new workout clothes for the fire department and hear a citizen speak on police officer harrassment with valet parking at Tuesday’s council meeting
The Fort Worth City Council this week is meeting at 10 a.m. Tuesday, followed by a closed executive session. The meeting will start with a presentation to the Tarrant Area Food Bank from the Fort Worth City Employee Food Drive. (I think we can safely assume the presentation will be in the form of non perishable edibles.) In a nutshell, the council will discuss the following:
- Approving multiple property owners for a partial or full Historic Site tax exemption.
- Adopting an ordinance that will require Southwestern Bell Telephone Co., d/b/a AT&T Texas to move it's utility facilities at it's own expense within 30 days or else the City Attorney's office will pursue legal action. SNAP! Peace out, ATT.
- The council will conduct multiple public hearings regarding the proposed '08-'09 budget.
- The city will be spending a nice chunk of change on workout clothes for the fire department. I can't BELIEVE my tax dollars are going to something as unnecessary as clothes for firefighters.
- The city will also be acquiring more Crown Vic's for the police department, traffic signal preemption equipment (quite possibly for the buses), tennant sweepers and water test kits.
- The council will also be authorizing the conversion of land for gas pipeline installation. Yes, still with the gas. We will be hearing about the gas for a very long time, but that's okay because it leaves ample opportunity for Beano jokes. (Insert Fort Worth Beano joke)
- At the end of the meeting, the citizen presentations include a few people addressing solid waste pick up and one guy talking about "Police officer interference and harassment with valet parking at Piranha’s Restaurant," which sounds interesting. Any time "police officer" and "harassment" are used in the same sentence, things usually get interesting.
