Denton Ryan High band selected for national festival
The musical program selected to perform at the festival will be one of the most challenging programs the directors have ever put together.
DENTON The Ryan High band was selected to participate in the National Concert Band Festival, hosted by Bands of America, from March 19 through 21, 2009 in Indianapolis at the BOA headquarters.
Each summer, bands from all over the country send in audition recordings to be considered for the festival. Judges and professional ensembles listen to the audition recordings during June and July and decide who meets the standard to be invited to the festival.
“In June, we submitted the Wind Symphony’s UIL recording from April 2008 as an entry and applied to be considered for the BOA National Concert Band Festival, and on Aug. 1 we received an invitation to participate in this prestigious event,” said Eddy Russell, Ryan High’s band director.
According to Mr. Russell, the musical program selected to perform at the festival will be one of the most challenging programs the directors have ever put together.
“This is one of the highest honors our program at RHS has ever received. It will be a privilege for me and our support staff to work with the students in preparation of this event and for us to represent our school, community, and state,” Lee Smith, associate director of bands said.
