UPDATED: Groundbreaking for eastern extension of Bush Turnpike in Rowlett on August 21

1

— Rowlett has been chosen as the host location for the official Groundbreaking for the President George Bush Turnpike Eastern Extension. The ceremony will take place on Thursday, August 21 at 9 a.m. at the intersection of Liberty Grove and Baffin Bay, just north of Super Target.

Mayor John Harper and Mayors from Rowlett, Garland, Sachse will speak, as well as dignitaries from TxDOT, the NTTA and any National or State Representatives present.

UPDATE: Due to inclement weather, the North Texas Tollway Authority Eastern Extension Groundbreaking of the President George Bush Turnpike has moved to a new location: the Rowlett Community Centre at 5300 Main Street, Rowlett. This venue is about 1.5 miles from the original site at the intersection of Liberty Grove Road and Main Street. The event will still be held on Thursday, August 21 at 9 a.m. with remarks beginning at 9:15 a.m.

This 9.9-mile Eastern Extension will extend from State Highway 78 to Interstate Highway 30, through the cities of Garland, Sachse and Rowlett and be open to traffic at the end of 2011.

snowboard9, says:

Does the extension plan have an lane exit strategy? Does it cost $100B a year to keep?

These are very important questions before we fund this.
