Kim Brimer-Wendy Davis showdown in Fort Worth set to end Friday
Expect to hear a quiet sigh of relief Friday from the Wendy Davis campaign.
Davis, a Democrat who is running against state senator Kim Brimer, a Ft. Worth Republican, has faced several challenges against her candidacy because of "resign-to-run" laws, meaning her opponents don't think she resigned from her city council post early enough before declaring her candidacy for the State Senate.
First, a group of area firefighters said her candidacy was illegitimate, but the motion was denied. Then, Brimer himself tried to get Davis removed from the ballot. State District Court Judge Tom Lowe denied the challenge, allowing Davis to remain a candidate in the election.
The Texas Supreme Court today denied Brimer's request to expedite his appeal, meaning Brimer's last chance will be with the Second Court of Appeals in Ft. Worth.
The deadline to remove a candidate's name from the ballot is this Friday. Here's to an end to this never-ending drama, and a victorious Wendy Davis. We have a feeling Brimer wouldn't be so persistent with this lawsuit if he weren't afraid of losing his seat in November.

Wendy Davis is a crook! and I am a Democrat. I know her personally and she is an elitist. I'm all for electing a Democrat but not her. All Wendy cares about is herself and her ego.

John Basham, says:
With the author of this story being "admittedly" liberal it's not suprising that it misses the mark completely.
I always find it amusing when the "liberal left" wants to hold the conservative right to a different standard than they hold their own.
If this had been a Republican that was still serving a local office when they illegaly declared as a candidate for a state race, the left would have shouted from the highest mountain-top; yelling all the while "dirty politics!"
They most certainly would have taken the matter to court with blindy speed and fanfare of meida. The left also would not rest until they followed the case all the way through the courts until the last possible appeal had been exhausted.
The fact is; there is a question of law in this case and the proper venue for legal questions are the courts (not the court of public opinion).
Now that may just seem like semantics but the position Ms. Davis and Mr. Brimer are seeking is one of MAKING law. If one cadidate cannot follow the laws already in place (as they either did not bother to research or did not understand them) then that's a true issue for that potential lawmaker.
While it is likely that this case will die on the vine due to a lack of appelate action by the courts, it should not be lost that this is/was a REAL issue that deserved to see the light of day.
Just ask yourself, if the tables were turned;"What would the liberals do?"
I think you know the answer. I commend Senator Brimer for standing his ground on the point of law. That is the kind of legisltor I want watching out for me!
