North Dallas Tollway now a contender to be named after Cesar Chavez
The Dallas Plan Commissioner, Neil Emmons, has suggested renaming the North Dallas Tollway after labor leader Cesar Chavez. Seriously, this is getting a little ridiculous. Obviously the people want a street named after Chavez. Why can't we give it to the street that is already being renamed? Because the City Council committee in charge of renaming Industrial said so.

This is so out of hand. I know they really, really want to have a street named Cesar Chavez. Why? the man has never even been in Texas much less the DFW area. Why can't LULAC actually do some research and come up with a more relevant name if it has to be latin.

I presume there's going to be a petition against this <a href="http://www.pegasusnews.com/news/2008/aug/07/changing-ross-avenue-cesar-chavez-makes-logical-se/#c32708">just like Ross</a>? Someone please post a link if so.

It really is a shame that there isn't any new construction going on so that a new street could be named whatever the primary investors/residents wanted.

Let's just name all our streets after Cesar Chavez. It sure would make giving directions easier.

Or just make it a prefix or suffix to all existing names.

And days of the week could benefit from it as well. We really are thinking too narrowly.

Foodstuffs? Wines? I mean who the heck is Chardonnay anyway and why does he get millions of bottles of stuff named after him when this great American goes unnoticed?
Hair care products? Common misused verbs? I mean "Xerox" is a trademark, not an activity. We could call photostatic copying "Chavezing" after the tens of thousands of leaflets his followers made.
C'mon people it's a new day!

We needs to name this road after George W Bush! The greatest president in the world. This will make everyone happy:
--Wealthy whites don't have to see ANOTHER minority's name (MLK didn't visit here either!)
--The middle-class and poor get to be reminded of who has continually screwed them over!
Yipeee!!

Area codes. 214, 972, 469? We're running out. They're confusing.
For all of Dallas so this name is on our very tongue each minute of the day. Every man woman and child regardless of race, color, creed or favorite shopping center can rejoice with every SMS!

I'd like to rename it just "Dallas Tollway". Get rid of the the "North" part. That way, visitors don't get confused when you say "just get on North Dallas Tollway South".
However, put me down for wanting to rename "President George Bush Turnpike" to "Pedro should have been President Turnpike"
