Beginning on Friday, Aug. 29, select theaters around the country will begin showing a special sing-along version of the Universal Pictures smash hit Mama Mia!, which has grossed over $117 million in the U.S. so far (and $320 million worldwide).

Two theaters here in North Texas are among those that will show what can only be referred to as the Karaoke version of the movie (with lyrics to the musical numbers appearing on the screen). These two theaters are the AMC Northpark in Dallas and the Cinemark Legacy in Plano.

Aargh.

Aargh.

According to the press release, this is a limited time opportunity (read: for as long as it's profitable) to round up your girlfriends (you'll notice I'm mentioning nothing about boyfriends, because they will want to find something more to their liking to do while this goes down) and traipse on down to the theater.

Both singing and dancing are encouraged, just FYI, so those attending might want to prepare for spilled refreshments.

To monitor scheduling and find additional theaters around the country which are participating, visit the film's official website.

UPDATE: additional theaters in North Texas have been booked for the special sing-along shows, including AMC Parks Arlington, AMC Grapevine Mills-Grapevine, Rave Pictures at Ridgmar-Ft. Worth, Rave Pictures Northeast Mall-Hurst, and the Southlake Town Square 14-Southlake.
