When Parker city leaders convene Tues. night's (Aug. 26) session of the city council (at 6 p.m., in Parker City Hall), matters relating to gold medal Olympian Nastia Liukin will still be on their agenda.

That's because the welcome home parade - originally scheduled for last weekend - was postponed until this coming one (Sat. Aug. 30) thanks to all the wet weather North Texas experienced last week.

So, after taking up the matter of the proposed 2008-2009 fiscal year budget and holding a public hearing on the proposed property tax rate of .37708 per $100 valuation, the next item up for consideration involves the proposed use of Plano ISD buses for the Liukin celebratory parade.

There will be a summary action report on the planned Nastia festivities, and consideration will be given to the appointment of a parade committee to expedite this and future such events.

Police-related items will make up the rest of the individual consideration items, including the establishment of a vehicle replacement schedule and an agreement between the City of Parker and Collin County on jail facilities and dispatch services.

As for Saturday's big Nastia parade: it will start at 9 a.m. at Victory Church (appropriate, no?) and wind its way westward on Parker Road to City Hall, then make a lazy U-turn and head back to the east. Additional info will be forthcoming, according to the City of Parker website.
