Rendering of the future Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge

Originally slated for completion in 2007, then pushed back to 2010, the Margaret Hunt Hill Trinity River bridge is now unlikely to be finished until 2011. The bridge's Italian steel manufacturer is unable to deliver enough of the fabricated components in the expected timetable. Despite the memo to City Manager Mary Sum indicating the delay, the Trinity River committee won't be briefed on the issue until mid-September.

Man, they'll be so pissed when they find out.

In general, American steel costs more than imported steel. Sounds like this might be a fabrication issue more than a supply issue. Hard to tell since the article lacks much detail.

It'd be interesting to know if that still holds true, considering the cost of shipping these days.
