e. (Repeat) The club's application to join the Kroger Neighbor to Neighbor Program has been approved. We are now members of this program for the current period which ends April 30, 2009. You can help the club earn a percentage of Kroger's donations to the program by using your Kroger Plus Card whenever you make purchases at Kroger. Please print the attached "Kroger Customer Letter/SWBC Bar Code", take it to Kroger on your next visit, join the Kroger Plus Card program if not already a member and have the Kroger customer service desk or cashier scan your Kroger Plus Card and the bar code on the form so that subsequent purchases you make with your Kroger Plus Card can benefit the club. If you are not yet a member of the Kroger Plus Card program, joining is easy. Applications are available at any Kroger cashier or at the customer service desk. Membership in the Southwest Bluegrass Club is not a prerequisite for this program. If you are not a member of the club, you can still help us out by joining the Kroger program. Please be aware that the program states: "if the Kroger Plus Card is not presented during a transaction, your organization's account will not be credited". Merely giving the cashier your phone number may avail you of any Kroger Plus discounts but your purchase will not benefit the club so please remember to use your Kroger Plus Card whenever you shop at Kroger. In addition, some items you may purchase are "ineligible purchases", excluded by law and will not be credited toward the program. These include: alcohol, tobacco, pharmacy. postage stamps, gift cards/certificates, lottery/promotional tickets, fuel, sales tax and other items.

Tim is one of the bright lights of the bluegrass world, having worked in Nashville area for more than 20 years as a sideman, session player, band member and performer. Tim's accomplishments are too numerous to mention, but during the past few years he has toured with Patty Loveless, played on Rounder Records' all-star project "Moody Bluegrass", recorded projects with Charlie Daniels, Brad Davis and Cody Kilby, and appeared on the cover of Flatpicking Guitar Magazine.
The workshop is sponsored by the Bay Area Bluegrass Association, and will take place at BABA's regular show space at the Jonny Arofolo Civic Center, 300 W. Walker Street, League City Texas. Tim will kick things off at 1 p.m., and the workshop will last for about four hours. Cost for the workshop will be $60 per person, paid at the time of the workshop. f. One final item, at BABA we've got an great series of workshops lined up for January 2009. Orrin Star is coming to town for four workshops on both flatpicking guitar and mandolin. Orrin is an award-winning guitarist and mandolin player who combines hot picking, cool singing, and good humor. Once described as "Arlo Guthrie meets Doc Watson", he was the 1976 National Flatpicking Champion, has appeared on A Prarie Home Companion, and has a repertoire that ranges from bluegrass standards to little-known folk gems, Celtic fiddle tunes, to fingerstyle blues. Orrin will be presenting four workshops (two on flatpicked guitar and two on mandolin) Friday evening through Sunday during the weekend of January 16, 2009. Because Orrin values the ability to work closely with a small number of participants, we will have a tight limit on space of about a dozen participants per session. We will send out a detailed e-mail later this year, but if you'd like more information or to secure your places early, please feel free to get in touch with Joe Dodson at joe.dodson@yahoo.com or by phone at 713-880-5991.
