Grand Prairie AirHogs 4, Fort Worth Cats 2

The Grand Prairie AirHogs scored two runs in the ninth inning as they defeated the Fort Worth Cats 4-2 in Game 2 of the South Division series on Tuesday night at LaGrave Field in Fort Worth.

With the win, the AirHogs took a 2-0 series lead and move to within a game of advancing to the American Association Championship series.

The Cats took a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Nelson Teilon ripped an RBI double to the left-field corner, scoring Ed Montague from second base.

After being held scoreless through the first three innings, the AirHogs tied the game in the fourth inning as Billy Munoz hit a solo homer to right off Lee Gwaltney to knot the game 1-1.

Grand Prairie took the lead in the sixth inning as David Espinosa led off with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and then scored one out later as Edwin Maldonado singled to center.

The Cats tied the game quickly as Teilon belted a solo homer, his first of the playoffs off Jose Cordero to make it 2-2.

The game stayed tied 2-2 going to the ninth inning. In the ninth with one out, Aaron Garza dropped a bunt single down the third base line to reach first. After Brandon Carter lined to short for the second out of the inning, David Espinosa hit a bounding ball off the first base bag and over the head of a waiting Pat O'Sullivan and in to right field for an RBI double. The next batter, Holder, singled to center, scoring Espinosa for a 4-2 lead.

The Cats were once again shut down in the ninth by Grand Prairie closer James Morrison, as he retired the side for his second consecutive save.

Geivy Garcia (2-0) notched his second win of the post season as he threw 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief. Jon Hunton (0-1) suffered the loss after allowing two runs on three hits in the ninth.

Lee Gwaltney went seven strong innings but received no decision in the contest. He allowed just two runs on seven hits while striking out four.

The Cats try to stave off elimination on Thursday night in Game 3 in Grand Prairie. Dan Grybash goes for Fort Worth with Jeff Jamnik on the hill for Grand Prairie.
