Fort Worth Star-Telegram columnist will not face charges for alleged child abandonment incident

Earlier in August, columnist Dave Lieber - who writes for the Star-Telegram about matters relating to ethical conduct - was arrested (and released on bail) on charges of child abandonment stemming from an incident involving his 11-year-old son which took place at a Watauga McDonald's restaurant.

On Friday (Aug. 29), the Tarrant County DA's office announced that they will not be prosecuting the journalist, after deciding that the incident in which Mr. Lieber was involved did not reach the level of criminality.

According to Star-Telegram editors, Lieber will be reinstated in his position at the paper (from which he had been suspended pending the investigation), and will resume writing the Watchdog column "immediately."

Give Mr. Lieber credit: he stepped up to the plate and took responsibility for his questionable public behavior, posting a column about his "stupid and quite serious mistake" shortly after the incident.
