The Nastia Liukin victory parade was held Saturday morning in Parker along a stretch of (duh) Parker Road. The total number of people was not viewable from my vantage point, but I'd guesstimate at least 600-700 were in attendance. Lots of people wanted in on the parade action, although the lack of signs made many of their identities a mystery.
Those we could identify were two state representatives, the staff of U.S. Senator John Cornyn (no, not Cornyn himself -- just two women on his staff), and the mayors of Parker, Plano, Allen, Murphy, Wylie, Frisco, and Richardson. I personally thought including Frisco and Richardson was pushing it since they don't even border Parker, but what do I know? Also on hand were dogs, lots of kids, marching bands, a rock band, puppets, a fan man, 2004 gold medalist Carly Patterson, and, of course, Nastia herself. For sights from the parade, peruse the pictures below...

Nastia Liukin, 2008 Olympic USA team gymnastics champion performed her Olympic medal winning floor routine to music from Well-Tempered Productions, a record label specializing in innovative classical music. The selection entitled 'Variations on Dark Eyes,' was arranged and performed by the Israeli virtuoso pianist Ilan Rechtman and features the violin playing of Lara St. John. The selection is currently only available on a CD recording entitled 'Gypsy.' Ilan Rechtman is the featured artist on two releases on Well-Tempered that will be available in early 2009, "Beethoven in Brazil," and "Rechtman Plays Beethoven, Chopin & Rechtman." The 'Gypsy' CD is available directly from Well-Tempered or http://Amazon.com. http://www.welltempered.com "It is especially interesting to me personally that an athlete with such incredible artistry as Nastia would somehow gravitate to choose this particular recording of the 'Dark Eyes' work, which had so much skill, training, logistics, artistry, and intensity poured into it on every level. I think she must have somehow sensed the energy in it and related to it. I can't imagine it otherwise. For me it is a great compliment." —Kathy Geisler, producer, Well-Tempered Productions

this reporter sucks. Why does pegasus always promote opinions? I am not complaining, some of them make me laugh but as news you should just tell the story and not "add your two cents". especially all throughout the story. I thought that allrelative's comment was more interesting than the actual story.

This story would be one line, maybe two, if it was just the facts.
"Nastia rode down the street, along with a lot of other people providing onlookers with entertainment."
Cry about it.

Not to mention allrelative's comment amounts to not much more than blog spam for some crappy CD.

What a crude thing to say.

I'm glad you took 12 minutes to reflect on that. I'd hate to think you were making a rash comment.
This isn't exactly election coverage, and it doesn't need a two-page spread. If you think it sucks, write up your own version of what went down.

Ok, I get it.. it's ok to do something half assed if it's only a parade and not a national convention. Your obviously the product of the “no child left behind act.” Ok lets give him an award for great journalism. I am sure Natisa greatly appreciates the coverage and support.

Not winning a Pulitzer doesn't mean something is half-assed.
You're.
Nastia.

ouch, you got me there, can't argue so you move to critiquing? Very cleaver strategy a way of feeling empowerment. And it is completly half assed. read the thing and tell me it's great work.

Uhm, I got stuck in a doctor's office for over an hour today watching that beacon of journalistic circumspection, CNN, (did they get bought by Entertainment Tonight?) and I have to say if that is our upper bar for coverage of a national party convention, then Alex may be a tad over-qualified for our fair little publication.
There's a very good reason I can't tune my home TV to network news.

Dallas_Spohn: Hm, I thought I responded to you yesterday, but I guess I forgot to click confirm or something.
You were critiquing the original article, so why can't I critique you? Furthermore, your critique isn't very credible, no matter how "cleaver" your arguments.
