On Thurs., Sept. 4, the Studio Movie Grill locations in Arlington, Dallas and Lewisville will hold special 10 p.m. screenings of student-produced local film productions in association with themed menu items.
All three theaters will show as their main feature the R-rated ("for pervasive crude and sexual content, nudity, language, drug and alcohol abuse") comedy College, while each separate location will lead into this feature with a locally-produced student film geared toward the regional audience. Plus, each theater will feature its own special menu items for the one-time presentation. To wit:
* The Arlington SMG show will open with the excellent short "Schadenfreude," by Aaron Holloway, which won this year's 24-Hour Video Race competition. Food and drink items will include Blazing Buffalo Tenders, The Mavs Southwestern Wrap and Mavs Margaritas.
* At the Lewisville SMG, the lead-in will be a film from UNT filmmakers Casey Barteau and Richard Card called "VINYL." The foodstuff? Chips and Mean Green Spinach Artichoke Dip, North Texas Chicken Tenders and Mean Green Margaritas. (I'm starting to see a margarita theme here...)
* Meanwhile, over in Dallas, an SMU student filmmaking team will offer up "Daby Crockett Battles Kung Fu Vampires," which ought to score points just for the dang title; while the kitchen offers up a "Big D" Crispy Southwestern Chicken Salad, a Mega Mustang Burger, and... are you ready?... a Mustang Margarita. (The prosecution rests.)
Oh - and all locations will offer all-you-can-eat pizza for $8.99/person.
Apparently this SMG U thing is shaping up to be a regular occurrence, with one Thursday each month set aside for the event. Students (and others) can find out more, and get updates regarding future events and special offers, by "enrolling" at this web address.
