Driver deliberately hits four soccer players after fight in Dallas dance club

14

— Geronimo Chavez, 33, of Carrollton, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly mowing down four English soccer players Sunday morning after a fight at the Lizard Lounge.

After being thrown out of the club, it appears that Chavez deliberately plowed into the soccer players.

As an incidental note, Tim says that the Lizard Lounge is in Deep Ellum. Is that correct? I thought Deep Ellum's boundaries were Elm and Woodall Rogers.

Considering how shallow the pool of Deep Ellum venues has become, I'd think there's no issue lumping LL in. =p

well, doyle, by that logic (or lack of it, should i say), then why don't we just identify all clubs as being in deep ellum. just so deep ellum doesn't feel bad or look like it doesn't have many clubs. then once it gets some clubs again, we can let the clubs go back to their regular neighborhoods

i used to live in that neighborhood and would identify my place as NEAR deep ellum, not IN deep ellum. but i suppose if you're driving down from plano, lizard lounge would seem vaguely deep ellum-ish.

i realize this is pretty detail-oriented. i just wondered what the perception was

Well, it's easily within walking distance of Elm & Good Latimer on the east side of 75 . Everytime I've gone to LL I considered it heading to Deep Ellum...but that's obviously coming from someone who missed its wonder years and never lived in that area.

Geeeeeeeez, TG!

And that sounds about right, it is near Hawkins Street, which used to empty out to Pearl and Preston by the old Central Railroad, the old depot was about a block from the area and Behilarz Stoneyard was in back of the old building that Became the Lizard Lounge, which in the 80's was this wild strip joint.....That moved to the West End and was shut down...does Deep Elm stop and divide today at Live Oak by the Hispanic Cultural Center, and bounded by Baylor, then bounded to the south..while it seems to end at the Sons of Herman......old Watering holes...A/T. Yeah back when all the punk street kids lived in the big house on Good Latimer and the rave drugs came fresh/uncut from Houston or San Francisco..I guess now people just get cranked up or cranky on booze and run over the visiting team.

FWIW, I've seen TG's navigational skills of downtown and surrounding areas first hand - I'd sooner trust her judgment on this than my own. She simply took the initial joke a bit personally, and perhaps rightfully so. If were watching a unique area once considered my stomping grounds falter, I'd get upset about it too.

As someone who frequents Dallas night life while trying to avoid uptown, preppy clubs, etc...I still can't think of a time when I said "Hey, I should go check out Deep Ellum tonight!" Only visits in recent memory was a PN showcase at Dada and walking over to the area after visiting Pearl.

It's all trivial, imo - hopefully TG knows I was just goofing around (as normal).

And an attempt to rerail: Do we have an update with condition of the soccer players? "Mowing down" sounds pretty serious...hope they're all recovering well.

Scott, according to the article, all four were treated and released, so I guess they weren't hurt all that bad. That T.G. and her hyperbole! :)

LL has hosted some of the best big name electronica in Dallas this year. This incident followed a Sharam set. Armin, Deadmau5, Moby, on and on, highly recommended.

Im still an ellum resident and enjoy the fact we dont have all the kris-kris a-hole traffic that uptown gets. As for LL, its still a pretty decent place, as I caught Mobys set there a few weeks back.
