Lake Lewisville toll bridge construction well underway

The North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA) wants everyone to know that the toll bridge currently being constructed on Lake Lewisville - which will link up I-35E with the Dallas North Tollway when completed in the third quarter of 2009 - is proceeding along as planned, thanks very much.

Because motoring convenience needn't be hampered by a silly ol' lake.

Because motoring convenience needn't be hampered by a silly ol' lake.

The NTTA is working in concert with area municipalities (including the cities of Little Elm, Lake Dallas and Frisco), along with Denton County and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), to complete the 13.8 mile Lewisville Lake corridor project. The 1.7 mile toll bridge will be a key segment of this traffic easement.

A noticeable feature of the bridge will be its "red steel" tied arch, which - it says here - will begin to take shape over the lake in December of 2008. This archway and the lighted columns supporting it will form "an easily recognizable landmark in southern Denton County," as the NTTA puts it.

(As opposed to, say, dark sky conditions and an uninterrupted view of nature.)

Work on the four-lane (two in each direction) bridge and its signature arch is expected to continue into April of 2009; bridge buffs (and anyone else interested in observing the march of progress) can get a good look at things from Willow Grove Park in Lake Dallas.
