Fort Worth Avengers to play charity game on Saturday
The Fort Worth Avengers, a semi pro football team from the Texas United Football League, will play a charity game Saturday, December 6, at Pennington Field in Bedford to help raise money and toys for Toys for Tots according to team Marketing Director Maurice Williams. Game-time starts at 7 p.m., and fans can see the game for a toy donation or seven dollars. The Avengers will be playing the Texas Colts of Houston.
Prior to the game, the Avengers will also host a Fun Run 1 Mile Run and 5 K. The runs will begin at 7 a.m., and runners can pre-register at the Avengers’ website for $15 or register at the event for $20. A percentage of the proceeds will also benefit Toys for Tots. After the run, at 9 a.m., the Avengers will also host a time of family entertainment including food and activities for the kids.
Several of the team’s players have dual roles as they help the team function organizationally. Williams, the team’s Marketing Director, is also a wide receiver for the Avengers. Williams played high school football at Grapevine High School before attending college in Indiana where he played basketball. Alex Martinez is a slot receiver and serves as the team’s webmaster. The season officially begins in February, but the teams will play three preseason games in January.
