Irving-based Fluor awarded power plant contract in Bridgeport, Texas

Fluor Corporation announced today it secured a contract for the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning for Brazos Electric Power Cooperative’s Jack County Generating Facility Unit 2 power plant located near Bridgeport, Texas. The new 620 megawatt gas-fired, combined cycle expansion will provide reliable electricity with low emissions to serve growing demand required by Brazos Electric’s member utilities. Project completion is targeted for the second quarter of 2011. Fluor will book the undisclosed project value in the fourth quarter of 2008.

Fluor was previously the contractor for Brazos Electric Power Cooperative’s Jack County Generating Facility Unit 1 power plant. A similar design will be used for the new Unit 2 generating facility in order to shorten the schedule and to minimize plant operating costs. Jack County Unit 1 was completed with no lost time accidents and no OSHA incident recordables over the project lifespan of 900,000 work hours.

“We appreciate Brazos Electric’s continued confidence in Fluor as demonstrated by this second Jack County project award,” said David Constable, president of Fluor’s Power business group. “Our strong performance on Jack County Unit 1 will serve as the basis for providing greater value for this new power plant.” Jack County Unit 1 has proven to be a reliable source of power for Brazos Electric’s member cooperatives with a 93 percent 2007 annual plant availability factor while generating more than 3.5 million megawatt hours in 2007.
