Jeepers! “Creeper” thieves on the rise in Dallas

Creepers are a notoriously seedy part of society.

Creepers are a notoriously seedy part of society.

Dallas police are reporting an increase in so-called "creeper" thefts in which thieves sneak into offices dressed like employees or maintenance workers in order to steal personal and business property. The thefts used to happen every so often, but now police are getting reports nearly every single day.

So the next time a guy comes to fix your heater, I say just hold him down and call for the cops -- you can never be too safe.

Nobody's safe!

I always lock up my laptop when I leave work. And I have found that someone muddled through my desk drawers, presumably looking for valuables (or blackmail opps...or both).

Hold him down with a lead pipe, yeah.

And I don't keep anything personal in the office that I'd be sad to see gone. As far as the rest of our stuff, I just assume it's insured.

Didn't take long for this story to go national -- way to go, Dallas!:

This is also common on our campus. People who don't belong there hang around and watch..waiting for an instructor to step away from their office and leave the door open..it only takes a second.
