Irving-based Mission Foods to close Fort Worth plant, lay off 500 employees
Even though it says the company's overall sales growth is positive, Mission Foods (an Irving-based subsidiary of Mexican company Gruma Corp.) plans to close its tortilla and chip-making plant in Fort Worth, resulting in a loss of employment for around 187 local workers.
The plant shutdown is expected to occur in the first quarter of 2009, when plants in El Paso and Las Vegas will also be closed.
