Dallas-based AT&T to cut 12,000 jobs
Dallas-based AT&T Inc. is cutting 12,000 jobs, or 4% of its workforce, blaming a weakening economy and the loss of customers who are switching from regular old-fashioned phone service to cable and Internet-phone or ditching it completely for wireless. The layoffs will begin in December and continue into 2009.
