Dallas County’s computer system is not-so-good
DALLAS Dallas County's computer system is lame, says a consultant from Miami, who gave the county its lowest rating in seven out of eight categories, including protecting user IDs, use of multimedia such as video, protecting against external attacks, managing data, and effectiveness of the hardware.
County officials knew all along that things weren't good. Fixing the problems will take years and more money than they want to admit right now. Then again, they say that if they spend the money, they'll save money down the road.

Oh, were it true. They can easily spend the money without benefit.
" The FBI, which concurred with the GAO's recommendations, estimated that Sentinel will be completed by May 2010 and will cost $425 million. "

This, after blowing at least $100MM on the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_Case_File">prior attempt</a>.
Good luck, I say.
